Monte Markham was born on June 21, 1935 in Manatee, Florida and grew up in
West Palm Beach, Florida. Monte spent his Summers doing Summer Stock
theatre in Massachusetts and Vermont. He earned Masters in the Fine Arts,
English Literature and Theatre at the University of Georgia. Monte's very
first Hollywood role was in 'John Sturgis' Hour of the Gun.' He has 1
daughter and is married to Clair.
Monte has a very impressive resume and is a veteran of more than 200 plays,
ranging from 'Hamlet' to Broadway's musical 'Irene,' for which he won the
'Theater World Award.'
Monte is very recognizable to TV and movie viewers alike. In 1968 he
starred in an ABC TV comedy called 'The Second Hundred Years,' as Luke
Carpenter, a gold prospector during the 1890's gold rush in Alaska. An
avalanche had buried Luke and he was listed as dead until 70 years later.
His body was found during a military project. When he thawed, he came
back to life unaged as a 33 year old. He had to learn all about the
current century. Monte has also starred in the TV series, 'Mr. Deeds Goes
to Town' (1969) and 'The New Perry Mason' (1973). He was also on other TV
series as well, including 'Dallas' (1978), 'Rituals' (1984), 'Melrose
Place' (1992) and 'Campus Cops' in 1995.
His movie credits include the TV movie 'Piranha' (1995), 'Two Guys Talkin'
About Girls' (1995/Direct to Video), 'Neon City' in 1992 as Captain
Raymond, in which he also wrote and directed. Also included are 'Defense
Play' (1998/He was also the director), 'Judgement Day' (1988), 'Hot
Pursuit' (1987), 'Jake Speed' (1986), 'Off the Wall' (1983), the TV movie
'Drop Out Father' (1982), 'Hotline' (1982/TV movie), 'Separate Ways'
(1981), 'The Ghosts of Buxley Hall' (1980/TV Movie), 'Airport' (1977),
'Relentless' (1977/TV movie), 'Midway' (1976), 'Ellery Queen' (1975) and
'Husling' (1975/TV movie).
Monte also appeared in 'Ginger in the Morning' (1973), 'The Astronaut'
(1972/TV movie), 'One is a Lonely Number' (1972), 'Visions' (1972/TV
movie), 'Death takes a Holiday' (1971/TV movie), 'Guns of the Magnificent
Seven' (1969), 'Project X' (1968) and 'Hour of the Gun' (1967).
Monte has a fine list of credits as a guest star on many TV shows,
including the syndicated 'Star trek: Deep Space Nine' in 1996, 'Burke's
Law' in 1995, the sitcom 'Grace Under Fire' (1995), 'Murder She Wrote'
(1993), 'The A-Team' (1984), 'Hawaii Five-O' (1980), 'The Six Million
Dollar Man' (1974), 'The F.B.I.' (1970), 'Alias Smith and Jones' (1971),
'The Mary Tyler More Show' (1970), 'Mission Impossible' (1966) and Hogan's
Heroes.
