Yasmine Bleeth was born in New York City, New York. Her New York native
Father Philip was of Russian, German and Jewish decent. He made his living
as a businessman. Her Mother Corina was French North African (Algerian)
and was a Catholic. Corina was a former fashion model. Yasmine has said
that her Mother was a beauty, but she wasn't a beauty queen. She was noted
as a beauty that not only gave Yasmine her looks, but also gave her lessons
and skill in how to handle life. She insisted that her daughter do well in
school. Her parents did not emphasize on her looks. Although she was a
star at an early age, Yasmine had to learn how to cook and do housework.
She got her early start in show business at just 6 months old. She
appeared as the Johnson & Johnson baby.
Growing up bilingual, Yasmine spoke French because of her Mother's
background and the fact that she went to a private school as well as her
native English. Yasmine went to the United Nations International School in
New York. She used to travel to Paris because her Mother was French and
she had family there. Like many other attractive girls, she has had her
problems with jealous students. One group of girls wanted to beat her up
simply because they said that she 'flipped' her hair too much. Now Yasmine
admits that she actually did 'flip' her hair too much. Girls also claimed
that she was 'stealing' their boyfriends. What must they think of her now?
Yasmine managed to survive her parent's divorce as a teenager, and the
death of her Mother from breast cancer in 1982 before she was 21 years old.
Her Mother was misdiagnosed. The doctor thought that she was going
through an early menopause. The doctor told her Mother to come back in a
month if the inflammation in her breast did not go away. But she did not
go back to the doctor even though the symptoms persisted. She was 43 when
finally diagnosed with breast cancer, which had spread tremendously, and 44
when she died. It was about six months. She never thought that she'd lose
her Mother to the disease. Yasmine had never discussed it with her. She
didn't ask her why she didn't go back when she realized that something was
wrong. Yasmine figures that it must have been denial or fear. Later she
realized that even though she and her Mother had fought a lot, that she had
been her best friend. The loss still hurts her deeply and admits that she
has never completely gotten over the loss.
At age six, she appeared in a Max Factor campaign with Christina Ferrara.
Her work in this campaign caught the eye of fashion photographer Francesco
Scavullo, who subsequently included her in his self-titled book 'Scavullo's
Women.' Yasmine continued her career modeling and acting.
Yasmine made her stage debut in the off-Broadway production of the one-act
plays, 'Welcome to My Life' and 'Looking for It.'
Yasmine left High School at 16 years old to take the part of Ryan Fenelli
on the then popular ABC daytime soap, 'Ryan's Hope.' She thought that this
saved her from going to College. She had never wanted to go away to
College. She had a huge following on 'Ryan's Hope.' In 1991 when the show
was cancelled, she stayed in the ABC family creating the role as the
sultry, misunderstood Lee Anne Demerest on the highly acclaimed Soap, 'One
Life to Live.'
She was cast in the role of Lieutenant Stephanie Holden's (Alexandra Paul)
younger sister Caroline Holden in a guest appearance on 'Baywatch' before
she left daytime TV and signed a three year contract to portray the role as
a regular cast member starting in the show's 5th season (1994-1995).
Yasmine was voted as one of 'People Magazine's' '50 Most Beautiful People'
of 1995. 'Baywatch' has launched her career as an international star and
she has become a multi-media presence with success in television, feature
films, CD-ROM, a music video, and her own poster.
Her credits include the 1996 NBC movie-of-the-week 'A Face to Die For.'
She portrayed a naive young woman with one half of her face disfigured.
She falls for the first man to give her attention and he uses her to rob
her employer. She has to take the rap for the crime. A plastic surgeon
fixes her face and falls for his own work. The movie generated high
ratings for the network. Yasmine also starred in the ABC TV movie, 'Talk
to Me,' where she portrayed a naive but ambitious young producer in this
behind-the-scenes story of a fictional talk show. In 1997, she got to
portray the bad girl in the ABC movie 'Crowned and Dangerous,' the comedy
about the vicious competition between beauty contestants.
Yasmine has appeared on numerous magazine covers. Her most publicized one
being 'Details' in 1997 where she was featured as one of three stars
modeling very sexy underwear. Yasmine also gave an explicit interview for
the magazine. She is also one of the numerous popular stars that endorse
the 'MILK' campaign, wearing that famous milk mustache. Her 'MILK'
magazine ad looks great!
With the help of the 'Baywatch' producers, Yasmine has developed her own
swimwear line called 'Yazwear.' She wanted to sell quality swimwear that
wasn't too expensive for the average person to afford. The line is sold
exclusively in the 'Newport News' fashion catalog. She models the swimwear
line herself.
During her hiatus from 'Baywatch' in 1997, she completed the feature film,
'Heaven or Vegas' (Cineville Pictures). The movie is slated for 1998.
Yasmine starred in a full-motion live entertainment CD-ROM entitled,
'Maximum Surge' (Digital Pictures), directed by award-winning special
effects genius, William Mesa (Oscar nominated for 'The Fugitive'). Yasmine
portrayed Jo, an ace computer engineer who is responsible for providing
game players with the guidance and technical know-how to help defeat the
evil dictator, Drexel. 'Maximum Surge' is available on PC, Mac and Sega
Saturn.
Yasmine also shot the video 'This House is not a Home,' the follow up to
'The Rembrandt's' number one single, 'I'll Be There For You.'
Yasmine had signed a three-year contract with the show and after fulfilling
her obligation, decided not to renew it. She wanted to move on to other
projects. She did decide however, to return in four guest appearances so
that her character could move on as well. Yasmine closes out her fourth
season with the show (Baywatch's 8th season/1997-1998). She was originally
slated to shoot five episodes, but the Executive Producers decided on just
four. In those four episodes, her character Caroline found love with
fellow Lifeguard Jack 'J.D.' Darius (Michael Bergin), as well as stardom on
the Soap, 'Shannon's Hope.'
During this 4th season, Yasmine noticeably had put a bit of weight without
the swim training. She had now stopped exercising. More recently toward
Summer, in 1998 Yasmine had started working out again. She admits to not
working out for about a year. She had concerns about her 30th birthday,
which was coming up on July 14th. Yasmine doesn't enjoy exercise, but
thinks that it is important to be active and healthy. She knows that
gravity won't always be on her side. She tries to eat reasonably and not
deny anything that she loves. She eats them in modest proportions.
One of the things that earned great disapproval was that Yasmine had such a
serious problem with the show, that she later constantly said to the press
that she hated it. As a regular cast member, 'Baywatch' gave Yasmine
international fame and enabled her to receive tremendous offers upon
completing her first season. It was such a shame that she couldn't keep
her personal disappointments to herself and exit 'Baywatch' with grace.
She was totally unprofessional and didn't show any class with her whining
display to the press and through the eyes of many of the show's fans. In
one of her first TV guide interviews (1996), her only complaint was the
cold, dirty Pacific stretch of water that was a part of her job. She said
that she hated it, but had a beautiful beach to come to work to every day.
Yasmine said that she was proud to be on the show. She got to do projects
during her hiatus.
She suddenly changed her tune when she became overwhelmed with the movie,
TV, endorsement and magazine offers. Yasmine constantly said in interviews
that she hated the show, even though no one told her that she had to take
the role that was offered in the first place. She really had nothing to
complain about because appearing on the show has opened up a lot of doors
that wouldn't have been opened to her otherwise. Most of us hadn't even
heard of Yasmine until she appeared on 'Baywatch.' She should have been
more grateful for the tremendous boost it gave to her career.
Another remark that Yasmine told the press was that she was 'so sick and
tired of Pamela Lee talking about her baby.' She could have told Pamela
that in private in a graceful way than to go to the press with such
pettiness. What else does a new parent talk about? Brandon was her first
child.
Officially off 'Baywatch,' Yasmine appeared in 'The Lake,' a 1998 TV movie
for ABC (February 1). She portrays a small town girl who returns home to
find that strange things are happening. Further investigation reveals that
something at the local lake that transforms people's personalities.
Yasmine has a big ambition to get off TV altogether and to make it onto the
big screen. She wants to do films because of the flexibility to portray
different character types. Her Father is now her manager and she now has a
new agent, 'The Gersh Agency,' and a full slate of new films including, 'It
Came from the Sky,' with John Ritter ('Three's Company,' ABC/'Hooperman,'
ABC) and JoBeth Williams. She also has 'Basketball' (comedy from David
Zucker/'Airplane'). She was on the cover of TV GUIDE with a story
entitled, 'Yasmine Bleeth: Beyond the Bay.' The article catches up on her
life after 'Baywatch.'
Yasmine has stated that she will not accept any nude offers. She has
turned down offers from 'Playboy' magazine, stating that the only reason
that they are interested is because she does not pose nude. Yasmine says
that she is a 'clotheshorse' and likes for people to see her with her
clothes on. She has also turned down offers from 'Wonderbra' (who wanted
her to be their next spokeswoman). She was featured on the February cover
of 'Women's Own' magazine. There was no feature article or interview.
Yasmine appeared on 'Keenan Ivory Wayans' (FOX), and 'Veronica's Closet'
(an NBC sitcom starring Kirstie Alley) as a model.
She has recently gotten back with her old boyfriend Richard Grieco after
not dating for a long period of time and concentrating on her career goals
after breaking off her engagement to hunky soap star Ricky Paull Goldin
after a five year relationship. They had a wedding date that was cancelled
so that she could film the ABC movie 'A Face to Die For.' The wedding was
put 'on hold.' But Yasmine never set another date and when she broke off
the relationship, everyone wondered what went wrong. Nothing was wrong
with her old boyfriends and they didn't do anything to provoke the
breakups. Yasmine felt that she needed to work on herself, and admits that
it was a lonely time for her.
Yasmine loves to cook. It brings her pleasure. She says that it is a
Creative outlet for her. She gets such a wonderful feeling when she cooks.
She compares it to the feeling that a sculptor or painter gets when they
create. Her boyfriend Richard Grieco has an incredible sweet tooth and she
bakes for him three times a week. She believes that life is what you make
it. Life is not predetermined. You make your own luck. Her heroes are
her Mother and her Grandmother.
